Sub-specialty certificates awarded by the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, and their accredited training centres.
A sub-specialty certificate (written “Cert” followed by the field, for example Cert Cardiology(SA)) recognises training undertaken beyond a primary specialty. A specialist (for example a physician or paediatrician) completes further accredited training and Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA) examinations to be certificated, and may then register the sub-specialty with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
Because sub-specialty training builds on an existing specialist qualification, it is offered at a smaller number of accredited centres. The entry requirements and examinations are defined by the relevant CMSA college.
The list below shows the sub-specialty certificates tracked on Placemint and where they are offered. Always verify current entry and examination requirements with the awarding college.
